TOPIK II Writing 51–54: complete, describe and argue
By VNDocs · Updated
The four TOPIK II PBT writing questions test different skills. Completion needs a precise fit, data description needs accuracy, and an essay needs developed reasoning. This guide covers the PBT format practised on VNDocs; do not apply its question numbering to TOPIK IBT.
Questions 51–52: complete the meaning
Read the whole passage before filling a gap. Identify the writer, audience, purpose and connection between nearby sentences. A grammatically possible answer can still contradict the surrounding information.
Make the missing sentence fit the existing structure. Check honorifics, endings and punctuation rather than adding an explanation beyond the gap. In a notice or email, the register must suit the audience.
Question 53: turn data into comparisons
Identify the subject, dates, units and the largest category or clearest change. This task normally asks for 200–300 characters; follow the instructions on your prompt. Separate what the chart establishes from a cause you merely assume.
In this original example, library use rises from 20% in 2015 to 35% in 2025. That is a fifteen-percentage-point difference, not a fifteen-percent increase. The Korean sentences describe these invented figures and are not an official scored answer.
도서관 이용률은 2015년 20%에서 2025년 35%로 증가했다. 이는 10년 사이에 15%포인트 높아진 수치이다.Question 54: address every instruction
List the subsidiary questions and give each a place in your argument. A 600–700-character essay needs a position, relevant reasons and explanation, rather than a long list of undeveloped claims.
Keep the written register consistent. Do not randomly mix conversational polite endings with formal declarative ones. Connectors clarify a relationship that already exists; they cannot repair unrelated ideas. Avoid inserting a memorised essay just because its topic is similar.
Revise a specific weakness
Compare AI suggestions with the question and original response. Repair a missing subject, an unsuitable word or a paragraph that misses an instruction, and explain the change to yourself. An estimated app score does not replace an official TOPIK result.
